Does it make me more money?
Ah, good question. One thing you must always bear in mind when publishing, whether digitally or in print: most authors don’t get rich, or even close to it. If money is your objective, then you must write something lots of people really want to read. That has nothing to do with the medium of publishing. The other key to success is to be known about and looked for.
If you look at the many ‘tips and hints’ articles on the internet that talk about commercial success, you will find that the golden thread in all of them is promotion, sometimes called referrals, word-of-mouth, reviews, trade airs, signings, marketing and sales. I will detail how to do this, both directly and indirectly, in another article.
I would end my answer to this question with another: why, in your heart, do you want to publish: for money or for the joy of recounting something special to the world? If its for money, you know what you have to do. If its for joy, the cost of doing so is just so much less than the pleasure you and your readers will have – so just do it!
